Thomas began playing tennis at age five with his father, Krister.
In 1989 Thomas became European under 14’s singles champion and won a doubles title. He injured his right elbow while playing the Orange Bowl under 16s in 1991, but still reached final, losing to Spain’s Gonzalo Corrales. Finished number 10 in 1993 world junior rankings.
His idol growing up was Mats Wilander, who is captain of Swedish Davis Cup team.
Thomas enjoys reading books from Swedish author Henning Mankell, National Geographic magazine and watches TV show Friends. His favorite actors are Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and he enjoys the music of U2, Depeche Mode and Swedish group Kent.
In his spare time he enjoys playing golf and innebandy (indoor floor hockey). Thomas also likes to watch his home town hockey team Linkoping HC and Djurgardens IF.
